Protect Your Baby - Use Organic Baby Formula
Many concerned mothers are switching to Organic Baby Formula as a safer source of formula due to the recent scare in China. In China, the milk powder and dairy product ingredient melamine, which is also used in the manufacture of plastic products, was determined to cause kidney stones, make babies ill, and even cause death. While most of the tainted products have been recalled and destroyed, many plastic baby bottles are questioned, as well.
In addition to these other symptoms, there is scientific evidence to believe that the chemicals found in plastic bottles and containers may contribute to obesity later in life. Because so many products are now made using plastic bottles, even water, it is best to use glass bottles when feeding your baby.
Some mothers that were breastfeeding their first child when becoming pregnant, may find that because of the body and hormone changes during pregnancy, the breast-feeding infant will start to refuse the breast milk and many of these mothers are forced to look for alternative milk options to feed the baby.
In some case, a baby may be found to be allergy to regular dairy products, and it is normally evidenced fairly quickly, as the child will display allergic reactions such as rashes, or become overly fussy, spit up more, and cry until you are able to switch to something else and normally they have to switch formulas. Some are soy based, and an option in formulas that is readily available.
Some mothers start looking at organic options for formula. Several large companies, Earth’s Best, Simulac and Nature’s One, now make organic baby formula. In addition, some of the chain stores carry store brands. The organic brands often substitute milk powders or dairy products, although you need to look at the labels to find the ingredients. Some are high in sugar content, while others will use a brown sugar or rice formula, which is lower in sugar. Simulac’s has been named as a high sugar content, and may smell sweeter than the others. The problem with getting the baby used to higher sugar content is that they may not be as willing to accept a lower sugar content afterwards.
Because organic baby formulas are higher in sugar content, they can also be blamed for obesity. Obesity is a concern, as a baby does not get enough exercise to work the fat off, and it makes it harder for them to walk, and causes stress on leg muscles with the additional weight. It has sometimes been blamed for bowed-leg or pigeon-toe. It is important to monitor the baby’s intake and as they get old enough to supplement with baby cereals, you can switch to lower sugar content while weaning them to natural milk, assuming they do not have an allergy. Nobody wants a fussy, fat, bow-legged baby on their hands.
The main thing to keep in mind is that organic baby formula is a safe alternative for your baby just be sure to look at the ingredient label to monitor excess sugar in their diet.
